When does deer and gun season start?
The date depends on the exact South Carolina Game Zone. The published 2026 private-land deer openings are August 15 in Zones 3 and 4, September 15 for Zone 2 archery, and October 1 for Zone 1 and Zone 2 primitive-weapons hunts. See the calendar above for the full window and method.

- Report every harvested deer through SC Game Check by midnight on the day of harvest.
- Weapon periods, antlerless dates, and dog-hunting rules vary by zone and land type.
- WMA dates can be more restrictive than private-land dates.
